Warm Spring

The first day when I became one member of Kunming CIBA Mining Machinery Co. Ltd, I was surprised by the fact that the company had a history of nearly 30 years: it is known that the average life expectancy of Chinese enterprises is less than 3 years, then what supported her to go through 30 years of ups and downs? And what enabled the private enterprise to be pregnant with such tenacious vitality?  I kept searching for the answer, and only after the experience at the very beginning of this year, did I got it.

Early this February, It was grey and rainy winter in Kunming. I left Kunming to Chengdu to meet the general manager Zhang Enlin as planned, and accompanied him to Meishan Rolling Stock Works of Locomotive Group in China to inspect equipments.

The next day, the manufacturer came to pick up us, and then we went to their company, had the lunch, went to the workshop to inspect the equipments and signed the contract: Everything went smooth. That night, the manufacturer arranged us to have a get-together with some colleagues we once worked together: we song and danced with high emotions. When I was beyond myself, a call pulled me from the heavy to the hell. It was from my sister and she told me that mother had non-stop nosebleed from 8am to 8pm and had to be transferred to the municipal hospital by the recommendation of the county hospital. Suddenly, I felt helpless, just like a traveler in the desert, the twinkling neon light becoming glare and the music becoming ear-piercing. I could not be happy again, seeming to have lost the soul, and numb to cope with the scenes.

On the way back to the hotel, I recalled that mother took the heavy load for the children with her weak body for decades. Now, she was relieved from the burden, but her body collapsed: she was caught with diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, hyphosis etc in succession. She suffered from these diseases but I had no chance to show good care to her. At the crucial period when she fell into severe disease, I could not return to accompany her. Pondering with it, sorrow and grief burst into my eyes.

When arriving at the hotel, I told general manager Zhang Enlin about my mother’s illness and asked some days for leave. I knew that the end of year came nearer and nearer and it was the busiest time of our company, but mother’s disease occupied        my mind. After hearing my words, he agreed to my request for leave at once, and asked me whether I took enough money. And he told me, “If you have not enough money now, I will notify Financial Center to remit amount of money on your card, and I will handle the relevant procedures after I am back.” Also, he said that, “One must learn to cherish what we have; do not think that we will have chance to compensate; there are something that we can not get opportunity to compensate in all our lives. Your mother is ill, then go back home now; if any trouble, inform me; the company and I are your solid backing.”

After hearing what he had said, I was tearful in a flash. What a kind leader he was, from whom, I learnt the Noah’s Ark Group’s concept of phylanthropism; from whom, I seemed to see the sincere heart of chairman Zhang, who treated his staff as his family member. It was these people who supported the company for 30 years with their love and sincerity. It was them who sparkplugged and delivered the spirit of phylanthropism, cultivating Noah’s Ark Group from a small boat into a large ship.

The next day, I went back to be at mother’s side. Mother’s disease was brought into control due to the timely transfer, and she left hospital 3 days later. I did not call Mr Zhang for help, but I felt the powerful strength behind me, supporting me and encouraging me.

When I returned Kunming, the winter seemed to be in the pass, and I was bathed in an unprecedented warm spring……
